FOND DU LAC - St. Norbert College opened Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference play with a 3-0 loss to Marian University in a match at Sadoff Gymnasium.
The Green Knights fell to the Sabres 25-19, 25-22, 25-19.
St. Norbert never led in Set 1, with the Sabres taking a 12-5 lead en route to a 1-0 advantage. The Green Knights battled back in Set 2, holding a 14-9 lead. St. Norbert held a 19-16 lead before Marian went on a 7-1 run to take a 23-20 edge. The Green Knights got back to within 23-22 before Marian scored the next two points for a 2-0 lead. Marian never trailed in Set 3, with a 7-0 run after a 4-4 tie proving the difference.
The Green Knights hit .077 for the match, with 31 kills and 23 errors in 104 attempts.
Bennett Kornaus had nine kills, while
Barry Applewhite added seven kills.
Michael Whitney had 26 assists.
Kade Nelson finished with three blocks, while Applewhite,
Kaden Kornaus and Whitney all had two each.
Marian hit .200, with 36 kills and 16 errors in 100 attempts. Derek Wills had 12 kills to pace the Sabres.
