DE PERE - St. Norbert College faced off against a pair of Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes in its annual double dual against UW-Stevens Point and UW-Oshkosh at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (4-2) fell to the Pointers 25-19, 25-22, 22-25, 25-13 and to the No. 6-ranked Titans 25-17, 27-25, 25-17.
Against Stevens Point, St. Norbert led 10-9 in Set 1 before the Pointers went on a 7-1 run to take control. The Green Knights held a 15-10 lead in Set 2 before Stevens Point rallied and pulled away late from a 20-20 tie to take a 2-0 lead. St. Norbert trailed 13-9 in the third set before coming back to build a 21-18 lead. The Pointers tied it at 21-21 and 22-22, but St. Norbert scored the last three points to cut the deficit to 2-1. Stevens Point eventually built a 15-7 lead in Set 4 to clinch the match.
The Green Knights hit .124 in the match, with 44 kills and 26 errors in 145 attempts.
Mickenzi Benter led St. Norbert with 10 kills, while
Mari Szews added nine and
Anna Kudick eight.
Heidi Colburn had 36 assists and two service aces.
Kara Sowinski led the back row with 13 digs, while
Claire Leynse and
Casey Vaughan added 11 apiece. Benter and
Kirsten Klatt had four blocks each.
Against Oshkosh, the Green Knights trailed 16-14 in Set 1 before the Titans went on a 6-1 run en route to a 1-0 lead. St. Norbert led for most of Set 2, including 23-22 late when a very close service was ruled out on the back line. The set evolved into a deuce set with the Titans breaking a 25-25 tie with the last two points. St. Norbert trailed 13-10 in Set 3 before Oshkosh went on a 7-2 run and eventually lock up the win.
St. Norbert hit .134 in the match, with 34 kills against 18 errors in 116 attempts. Kudick and Benter had seven kills each, while Vaughan added six. Colburn had 22 assists and 17 digs. Szews totaled five blocks.
