MILWAUKEE - St. Norbert College got its appearance in the Wisconsin Lutheran College Invitational off to a good start with a 3-0 win over Loras College at Time of Grace Center.
The Green Knighs (5-2) dropped the Duhawks 25-23, 25-18, 25-14 in their only match of the night. St. Norbert will face former Midwest Conference adversaries Monmouth College and Illinois College at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, respectively.
St. Norbert held a first-set lead of 17-10 before Loras rallied to get to within 18-16 following a 6-1 run. The Green Knights saw their lead melt down to one point twice late in the set, the final time at 24-23, before an
Anna Kudick kill locked up a 1-0 lead. St. Norbert never trailed in Set 2, pulling away from a 13-13 tie with a 9-2 run en route to a 2-0 lead. Loras held a 7-5 lead in Set 3 before the Green Knights found an extra gear, closing out the set and match with an impressive 20-7 run.
The Green Knights hit .290 in the match with 39 kills against 12 errors in 93 attempts.
Kayden Lamon (pictured) had a team-high 11 kills. Kudick,
Casey Vaughan and
Heidi Colburn all added seven kills apiece. Colburn had 28 assists.
Maddie Kitowski had three service aces, with
Andrianna Volz adding two.
Kara Sowinski paced the back row with 12 digs, while Volz added 11. Lamon and
Mari Szews finished with three blocks each, with Vaughan and
Kirsten Klatt adding two apiece.
Loras hit .062, with 27 kills and 21 errors in 97 attempts. Autumn Finch led the Duhawks with 11 kills.
