LA CROSSE - St. Norbert College split a pair of matches on the second day of action at the UW-La Crosse Invitational at Mitchell Hall.
The Green Knights fell to UW-Superior 3-1, falling by scores of 25-23, 19-25, 25-23, 25-17 before rebounding to top Luther College 3-1 by scores of 21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 25-18.
Against Superior, the Yellowjackets snapped a 23-23 tie and scored the last two points of the set. The Green Knights fell behind 8-2 to open Set 2 but then 13-2 run to take control and even the match at 1-1. The Green Knights held leads of 20-18 and 23-22 in Set 3 before Superior took a 2-1 lead with a 3-0 run. St. Norbert trailed 17-15 in Set 4 before a 7-0 run by Superior took the mystery out of the outcome.
The Green Knights hit .106, with 50 kills and 32 errors in 170 attempts.
Gracie Buss had a team-high 11 kills, while
Casey Vaughan added nine.
Mickenzi Benter had 24 assists, while
Keira Ashenfelter had four service aces.
Kara Sowinski totaled 20 digs.
Against Luther, the Norse finished Set 1 on a 10-4 run to take a 1-0 lead. The Green Knights then finished Set 2 with a 5-1 run to snap a 20-20 tie and level the match 1-1. St. Norbert then trailed 23-22 late in Set 3 before scoring the last three points to take a 2-1 lead. The Green Knights never trailed in Set 4 en route to sealing the win.
The Green Knights hit .319 in the match with 59 kills against 16 errors in 135 attempts.
Annabel Stevenson (pictured) finished with 15 kills, while
Mari Szews added 10. Ashenfelter finished with 21 assists and three service aces. Stevenson added a team-high 12 digs, while
Clare Williams added three blocks.
