DE PERE - St. Norbert College registered 10 blocks en route to a 3-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran College in its Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference opener at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (9-4, 1-0 NACC) swept the Warriors 25-16, 25-19, 25-23.
St. Norbert had a slow start, falling behind 11-9 in Set 1. After a 12-12 tie, the Green Knights went on a 10-3 run to take a 22-15 lead and control of the set for a 1-0 edge. The Green Knights then jumped out to an 8-2 lead in Set 2 before Wisconsin Lutheran responded with a 9-1 run to pull ahead 11-9. Again tied 12-12, St. Norbert went on an 8-2 skein for a 20-14 lead on its way to a 2-0 match advantage.
The Green Knights held a 12-6 lead in Set 3 before the Warriors had one last-ditch rally in taking a 14-13 lead following an 8-1 run. St. Norbert answered with a 10-4 spurt for a 23-18 lead, but Wisconsin Lutheran cut it to 24-23 before
Casey Vaughan's kill sealed the match win.
St. Norbert hit .183 for the match with 37 kills against 15 errors in 120 attempts. Vaughan finished with a team-high 10 kills.
Anna Kudick added seven kills, while
Annabel Stevenson and
Mickenzi Benter had six terminations each.
Heidi Colburn (pictured, left) had 15 assists, with
Keira Ashenfelter adding 10 assists.
Claire Leynse had two service aces.
Kirsten Klatt (pictured, right) finished with eight total blocks, including one solo. Benter had four blocks, with Vaughan, Stevenson and
Clare Williams all posting two each.
Kara Sowinski finished with 12 digs and
Andrianna Volz added 11.
Wisconsin Lutheran hit .042 with 30 kills and 25 errors in 119 attempts. Kayla Wigley had a team-high 10 kills.
