FOND DU LAC - St. Norbert College overcame a slow start and posted a 3-0 win over Marian University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Sadoff Gymnasium.
The Green Knights (10-4, 2-0 NACC) dispatched the Sabres 25-23, 25-17, 25-13.
St. Norbert won the opening set despite Marian registering 16 kills, which was offset by 10 hitting errors. Set 1 featured 11 ties and five lead changes, the last coming after Marian saw a 23-22 lead turn into a set loss after kills by
Casey Vaughan and
Alli Clark and a Sabres' error. The Green Knights were in control the rest of the way, building a 12-6 lead in Set 2. Marian cut its deficit to 13-10 but a quick 5-0 run by the Green Knights served as the impetus to a 2-0 lead. St. Norbert then saw a 6-5 deficit in Set 3 turn into a 14-7 lead following a 9-1 run en route to victory.
The Green Knights hit .210, with 35 kills against 13 errors in 105 attempts. Vaughan had nine kills, while
Mari Szews added eight.
Heidi Colburn finished with 13 assists, while
Keira Ashenfelter (pictured) had 12 helpers. Colburn posted three service aces with
Andrianna Volz adding two.
Colburn had 12 digs, while Vaughan added nine and
Kara Sowinski seven. Szews totaled four blocks, while
Annabel Stevenson and
Kirsten Klatt had three apiece.
Marian hit .075, with 31 kills against 23 errors in 106 attempts. Mikalah Mueller led the Sabres with nine kills.
