Balanced Attack Powers St. Norbert Past Lakeland

PLYMOUTH - St. Norbert College used a balanced offense to get things rolling in a 3-1 win over Lakeland University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Woltzen Gymnasium.

The Green Knights (7-11, 2-4 NACC) snagged the Muskies 25-19, 25-10, 18-25, 25-21 behind three players reaching double-digit kills and a fourth with eight as they hit .267, with 48 kills and 17 errors in 116 attempts.

The first set was a tight battle, with the Green Knights holding a 15-14 lead. The Green Knights then went on a 5-0 run to get some breathing room behind a pair of Bennett Kornaus kills and a kill from Kade Nelson. St. Norbert never saw its lead shrink to less than five points the rest of the set to take a 1-0 lead. The Green Knights took control early in Set 2, jumping out to a 12-3 lead. A Nelson service ace put the Green Knights ahead 21-7 en route to a 2-0 lead.

Lakeland batted back in Set 3, building a 15-8 lead before cutting its deficit to 2-1. St. Norbert never trailed in Set 4, seeing a 12-11 lead move to 16-12 paced by blocks from Kornaus and Barry Applewhite. The Muskies would tie the set 18-18 before the Green Knights came again, going on a 4-0 run as they closed out the match win on a Lakeland service error.
