CHICAGO - St. Norbert College hung close but couldn't quite get over the hump in a tight 3-0 loss to Illinois Institute of Technology in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Keating Sports Center.
The Green Knights fell to the Scarlet Hawks 25-22, 25-22, 25-20.
St. Norbert held an 11-9 lead in Set 1 before Illinois Tech pulled away from a 14-14 tie with a 5-2 run to gain breathing room. The Green Knights cut the deficit to 20-19 and 22-21 but wouldn't draw even in falling behind 1-0. St. Norbert trailed 19-14 before getting to 21-19 in Set 2. The Green Knights also trailed 23-21 and 24-22 but couldn't force a deuce set. A 6-1 run early in the third set put the host in control en route to a 3-0 win.
The Green Knights hit .294, with 41 kills against 16 errors in 85 attempts.
Bennett Kornaus posted 16 kills, while
Kaden Kornaus added 10 kills.
Kade Nelson (pictured) added six kills against one error in 10 swings.
Michael Whitney had 34 assists.
Whitney had eight digs, while
Zach Hanse and
Ryan Conway had four apiece. Nelson and Whitney had two blocks each.
Illinois Tech hit .360, with 38 kills and 11 errors in 75 swings. Maximo Dowling led the Scarlet Hawks with eight kills.
