DE PERE – St. Norbert College began its final stretch of the season with a 6-5 overtime win over Milwaukee School of Engineering in a Northern Collegiate Hockey League game at Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights (6-18, 5-15 NCHL) scored the game winner shortly after overtime began with Jake Kunz scoring his fourth goal of the season as the Green Knights swept the Raiders in conference play.
Trailing 1-0 in the first period, Tommy Sommen scored the leveler less than 15 seconds after MSOE took the lead to make it 1-1 at 3:15. The Raiders took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission, but another equalizer from leading goalscorer Dylan Pomillo made it 2-2 at 3:24 in the second off a Blake Knope assist. MSOE responded just a minute later to make it 3-2, but goals from Kunz and Pomillo made it 4-3 at the end of the second.
Chaz DelMarcelle made it 5-3 at 6:27 in the third period, but with two goals from MSOE, including a shorthanded goal on a St. Norbert power play, the game was sent into an extra period where Kunz scored the game-winner.
St. Norbert outshot the Raiders 44-33. Anders Smith (pictured) made 28 saves for the Green Knights while Cody Kaas had 38 for MSOE.
Pomillo finished the game with two goals and one assist for three points, while Kunz had two goals for two points. DelMarcelle had one goal and one assist for two points.
