LA CROSSE - St. Norbert College opened the UW-La Crosse Tournament with a 3-0 loss to the host Eagles at Mitchell Hall.
The Green Knights (7-3) fell to La Crosse 25-23, 25-19, 25-22.
St. Norbert and La Crosse battled in a tightly contested first set that featured 13 ties and eight lead changes. The Green Knights held a late 22-21 lead on
Claire Leynse's service ace. The set was tied at 23-23 before La Crosse parlayed a block and service aces into a 1-0 lead. St. Norbert fell behind 6-1 in Set 2 and never led in the frame. The Green Knights last led 11-10 in Set 3 before the Eagles took the lead for good. St. Norbert would get to within 21-20 late before the host closed out the win on a 4-2 run.
The Green Knights hit .176 in the match with 30 kills and 15 errors in 85 attempts.
Mickenzi Benter (pictured) led the Green Knights with 12 kills, while
Mari Szews added six kills.
Heidi Colburn added 19 assists.
Andrianna Volz chipped in with three service aces, while Leynse had two.
Kara Sowinski had a team-high nine digs, with Colburn adding six. Szews finished with four blocks.
La Crosse hit .260, with 41 kills against 16 errors in 96 attempts. Maddy Wilson had 10 kills and five blocks to lead the Eagles.
