Green Knights Can't Close Out Falcons

DE PERE - St. Norbert College and Concordia University Wisconsin battled in a wild Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match, with the visiting Falcons coming away with a 3-2 win at Mulva Famiy Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights fell to Concordia by scores of 22-25, 25-22, 25-10, 17-25, 19-17.

Concordia jumped out to an 8-1 lead in the decisive fifth-set tiebreaker before the Green Knights roared back. St. Norbert trailed 10-4 before going on a 10-2 run to get to match point with a 14-12 lead. The Falcons would get the next two points to force a deuce set, with St. Norbert again gaining match points at 15-14 and 16-15. The final tie came at 17-17 before Concordia scored the match's final two points.

The first set featured 12 ties and eight lead changes, with the final tie coming at 21-21 before the Green Knights went on a 4-1 lead to take a 1-0 lead. St. Norbert then held an 18-11 lead in Set 2 before Concordia went on a 14-4 run to tie the match at 1-1. The Falcons rode the momentum to a comfortable win in Set 3 and a 2-1 lead. Concordia scored the first point in Set 4 to finish an overall 40-14 run, but St. Norbert would build a lead and pull away from a 16-14 advantage to force the fifth set.

St. Norbert hit .155 for the match, with 66 kills against 35 errors in 200 attempts. Casey Vaughan had 14 kills, while Anna Kudick added 11. Kirsten Klatt (pictured) and Mickenzi Benter chipped in with 10 kills apiece. Heidi Colburn had 44 assists. Andrianna Volz, Claire Leynse and Alli Clark had two service aces each.

Colburn had 22 digs, with Vaughan getting 20, Volz with 16 and Kara Sowinski 14. Klatt had four blocks, while Kudick and Mari Szews had two each.

Concordia hit .175 for the match, with 59 kills against 24 errors in 200 swings. Abby Proefrock and Ashley Habermehl had 14 kills each.
