RIVER FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College concluded its Illinois road trip with a 3-1 loss to Dominican University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Igini Sports Complex.
The Stars took down the Green Knights, 25-15, 25-15, 21-25, 25-15.
The Green Knights (10-13, 3-6 NACC) trailed 6-1 to open the first set. St. Norbert's closest touching distance to the lead came at 15-9 after a Noah Cullen kill and Dominican attack error before the Stars finished the set on a 10-6 run. The second set followed with much of the same, with two late kills from Michael Whitney cutting the deficit to 21-15 before a 4-0 Dominican run to end the set.
Kills from Kade Nelson and Cullen broke a 6-5 Dominican lead in the third set to give St. Norbert its first lead of the match. The Green Knights led by two for most of the set until a 6-2 run with kills by Wade La Blanc, Cam Doty and Nelson gave St. Norbert the set win.
Dominican opened the fourth set on a 8-2 run. St. Norbert cut the lead to 20-15 with a Kaden Kornaus kill but five-straight points from the Stars ended the match.
St. Norbert hit .228 with 39 kills against 18 errors in 92 attempts. Kornaus and Doty led with seven kills while Jacob Van Ooyen had six. Whitney finished with 30 assists.
Whitney and Doty each had four digs.
Dominican hit .447 with 55 kills against 13 errors in 94 attempts. Casey Gross led the Stars with a match-high 14 kills.
