DE PERE - For the second time in three matches, St. Norbert College had three match points in its favor but could not convert and eventually succumbed 3-2 to Westminster College in a non-conference match at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights had their trio of match points at the end of Set 4 but eventually lost to the Bluejays by scores of 25-21, 23-25, 20-25, 29-27, 15-9.
Set 1 featured 15 ties and six lead changes, with the Green Knights holding their last lead at 18-17 before Westminster pulled away from a 20-20 tie. St. Norbert trailed 15-11 in Set 2 before going on a 5-0 run to take a 16-15 lead. The set was tied at 23-23 before a kill by
Noah Cullen and a Westminster error tied the match 1-1. St. Norbert never trailed in the third set to take a 2-1 lead. The Green Knights eventually built a 22-19 lead in Set 4 and held match points at 24-22, 24-23 and 25-24 before the Bluejays forced the fifth set. The fifth set was tied 4-4 before Westminster went on a 3-0 run and never trailed again.
St. Norbert posted a match record 74 kills against 28 errors in 182 attempts to hit .253.
Jacob Van Ooyen posted 25 kills against 10 errors in a St. Norbert-record 66 attempts.
Kaden Kornaus (pictured) had 18 kills, while Cullen added 12 and
Kade Nelson 11.
Michael Whitney had a school-record 66 assists.
Whitney had 14 digs, while Van Ooyen and Kornaus had 13 apiece and
Ryan Conway added 11. Nelson and Cullen had two blocks each.
Westminster hit .292 with 72 kills against 20 errors in 178 swings. Derrick Turner had a team-high 22 kills.
