DE PERE – St. Norbert College began its three-game homestand with a 3-0 sweep against North Park University in a non-conference match at Mulva Family Fitness and Sports Center.
The Green Knights (9-10) defeated the Vikings 25-20, 25-23, 25-21.
The first set featured five ties and several lead changes, with St. Norbert taking control of the set on a 5-1 run to break a 15-15 tie. The Vikings crawled back to within three points at 23-20, but with a kill from Jacob Van Ooyen (pictured) and a North Park attacking error, the Green Knights took the first set 25-20.
North Park held a 10-6 lead in the second set before the Green Knights retook a late lead. The Vikings held a 22-19 advantage, but the tables were turned off four consecutive North Park errors to give St. Norbert its first lead of the set at 23-22. North Park tied the set on the ensuing point but errors proved costly once against as St. Norbert won set two 25-23.
In set three, St. Norbert opened on a 12-5 run before the Vikings used a 4-0 run of their own to close the lead to 13-11. Kills from Van Ooyen and Noah Cullen made it a 22-17 lead for the Green Knights while a kill from Kaden Kornaus ensured the sweep with a 25-21 third set victory.
St. Norbert hit .229, recording 38 kills against 19 errors in 83 attempts. Van Ooyen led St. Norbert with nine kills, while Barry Applewhite had seven. Kornaus finished with six kills. Michael Whitney had 27 assists and a service ace.
Whitney had seven digs while Ryan Conway had six. Grant Bettag had six blocks while Wade La Blanc had three.
North Park hit .115, totaling 34 kills against 23 errors in 96 attempts. Josiah Walker led the Vikings with nine kills.
