Green Knights Finish Second at NACC Indoors

Christian LopezRIPON – St. Norbert College came up just short of taking the team title at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship at Ripon College's Willmore Center.
 
The Green Knights totaled 174.56 points to finish just shy of champion Milwaukee School of Engineering's 178.83 points. Wisconsin Lutheran College was a distant third with 70 points.
 
St. Norbert had three conference champions on Day 2. Ezra Schermacher won the high jump at a St. Norbert-record 6 feet 9 inches, while Jacob Klitzke took the shot put at 54-11 1/4. Kyan Lynts (pictured) set a NACC meet and St. Norbert record in the 3,000-meter run with a winning time of 8:37.05.
 
Schermacher was named the meet's Outstanding Field Athlete of the Year for the fourth time, while Lynts was named Freshman of the Year and part of a three-way tie for Outstanding Track Athlete of the Year.
 
Schermacher added a second-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.31 seconds, while Jacob Larson was fourth in 8.67 seconds and Maddix Mueller was sixth in 8.90 seconds. Schermacher picked up his second runner-up showing in the long jump with a mark of 22-5 1/4.
 
Mueller and Bennett Schmidt were tied for second place in the high jump at 6-2 3/4, while Ryan Flood was tied for sixth at 6-0 3/4. Flood added a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter dash in 51.31 seconds.
 
St. Norbert made plenty of hay in the heptathlon, posting four scorers. Mueller was second with 4,591 points, followed by Jacob McVane (3rd, 4,551), Larson (6th, 3,851) and Schmidt (8th, 3,736).
 
Lars Huffman was third in the 1-mile run at 4:22.60, while Jacob Wellons was sixth at 4:28.61. Wellons finished fifth in the 3,000-meter run in 8:54.47 and Christian Lopez (pictured) was eighth in 8:56.33.
 
Cooper Einsweiler was fourth in the shot put at 47-8. McVane was sixth in the 200-meter dash in 22.90 seconds. Huffman was seventh in the 800-meter run in 1:59.66 and Dino Dhaliwal was eighth in 2:00.82.
 
The 4x400-meter relay of Ian Meyer, Flood, Carson Hammer and Ian Blom was fourth in 3:28.95.
