St. Norbert Stays Hot With Marian Sweep

DE PERE - St. Norbert College won for the fifth time in its last six matches with a convincing 3-0 win over Marian University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (6-5, 2-1 NACC) topped the Sabres 25-22, 25-15, 25-18.

St. Norbert trailed Marian 10-7 in Set 1 before going on a 6-0 run behind the service of Michael Whitney, backstopped by a Barry Applewhite kill and blocks from Applewhite, Kaden Kornaus and Ryan Da Silva. The Green Knights nursed a 19-18 lead before getting some breathing room to take a 22-19 lead on a Whitney service ace. The Sabres would get to within 23-21 and 24-22 but Da Silva's termination gave St. Norbert a 1-0 lead.

The Green Knights were in firm control of the last two sets. St. Norbert saw a 6-5 lead in Set 2 rupture into a 12-7 advantage behind three Jacob Van Ooyen (pictured) kills. A 12-9 lead ended up ballooning into a 20-11 advantage after an 8-2 run, leading to a 2-0 match lead. St. Norbert led 9-8 in Set 3 before pulling away on a 5-2 run to take a 14-10 lead. The Green Knights closed things out pushing a 19-14 lead to 23-14 and clinching the match moments later.
