DE PERE – St. Norbert College improved to 9-2 in conference play with a 3-0 sweep over Illinois Institute of Technology in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
The Green Knights (20-8, 9-2 NACC) took the match with set scores of 25-21, 27-25, 25-12.
The opening set was tightly contested, featuring five lead changes and seven ties. St. Norbert grabbed momentum midway through the set with a stretch that included back-to-back service aces from Maddie Kitowski (pictured) and key blocks from Mari Szews and Anna Kudick. Illinois Tech pulled within two late at 21-19, but Casey Vaughan was able to close out the set with a kill. Set 2 was close early with a few quick lead changes before the Green Knights pulled ahead to a 15-6 lead off a Claire Leynse serving run. The Scarlet Hawks were able to rally late to earn set point at 25-24, but St. Norbert responded with kills from Mickenzi Benter and Annabel Stevenson to take a 2-0 lead. The Green Knights controlled much of Set 3, jumping out to a 14-6 lead and never trailing the rest of the way. Tech would only earn six more points as St. Norbert ended the match on an 8-2 scoring run.
The Green Knights hit .171, totaling 35 kills against 16 errors in 111 attempts. Stevenson led all attackers with nine kills, while Kudick had six and Benter five. Heidi Colburn tallied 29 assists, and Kara Sowinski anchored the back row with 12 digs.
Szews led St. Norbert in blocks, collecting seven, while Kudick and Stevenson each had two apiece. Kitowski recorded two service aces, and Andrianna Volz and Leynse each had one.
The Scarlet Hawks hit .042 with 30 kills and 25 errors on 119 attempts. Victoria Aspurez led the team with seven kills.
