DE PERE – St. Norbert College recorded its first weekend sweep in program history last weekend, notching 8-4 and 4-1 victories over Roosevelt University in two Northern Collegiate Hockey League Orange Division games at Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights (4-9, 3-6 NCHL) returned home following two losses to Lewis University, falling by a 7-2 scoreline both nights in Romeoville.
Blake Knope gave St. Norbert an early advantage in the first game against the Lakers, scoring just 49 seconds into the game. Dylan Pomillo (pictured) added a second at 13:12 in the first period, with assists coming from Will Mullooly and Patrick Muszynski. Mullooly made it 3-0 at 0:52 in the second, before Pomillo completed a hattrick with two goals at 2:48 and 7:55. The freshman ended the game with two more goals in the third period, finishing the day with five goals and one assist for six points. Chase Kassulat added one additional goal in the final period.
Mullooly recorded one goal and five assists for six points, while Luke Wessel and Sean Yurkov both had two assists for two points.
Roosevelt didn't find the back of the net till the third period, scoring all four of their goals on the power play. Anders Smith made 28 stops in the win for the Green Knights.
The Lakers took an early advantage in the second game of the weekend at 4:36 in the first period and held the lead until 3:58 in the second period when Chaz DelMarcelle tied it at 1-1. Kassulat scored the game-winner moments later at 7:57 on an unassisted goal, while a Mullooly goal at 3:33 in the third finally gave St. Norbert breathing room. Yurkov scored the dagger just over a minute later to make it 4-1.
Mullooly had three points in the win with one goal and two assists, while Yurkov and DelMarcelle each had a goal and an assist.
Smith made 25 stops on 26 shots.
