Green Knights Open Trip With Tough Setback

ARLINGTON, Va. - St. Norbert College wrapped up a long day with a hard-fought but tough 3-0 loss to Marymount University at Converse Family Fieldhouse to open a five-match road trip.

The Green Knights pushed the Saints but ultimately succumbed 25-20, 25-23, 25-22. The match featured 30 ties and 15 lead changes.

St. Norbert trailed 13-10 and 15-12 in the opening set before Marymount slowly built its lead en route to a 1-0 edge. The second and third sets were closely battled throughout. The Green Knights trailed 13-11 in Set 2 before taking leads of 14-13 and 16-14, the latter coming off a Kade Nelson kill. After a 17-15 advantage, went on a 5-1 run to take a 20-18 lead. St. Norbert battled back with a 3-0 run for a 21-20 lead, but Marymount came again and closed out the set.

The third set featured 16 ties and seven lead changes. St. Norbert led 14-12 after a Kaden Kornaus service ace, but following a timeout Marymount went on a 4-0 run to take a 16-14 lead. The Green Knights eventually led 19-18 after a Kornaus kill, but the Saints pushed back with three straight points. The set was tied 21-21 before Marymount scored four of the final five points.

St. Norbert hit .243 with 33 kills against 16 errors in 70 attempts. Bennett Kornaus had 11 kills against two errors in 21 attempts. Kaden Kornaus added eight kills, while Nelson had five. Michael Whitney had 28 assists. Whitney and Bennett Kornaus had two aces apiece.

Whitney had five digs, with Kaden Kornaus adding four. Nelson and Whitney each posted a block.

Marymount hit .339 with 31 kills against 10 errors in 62 attempts. Jonathan Pickering had a match-high 12 kills.
