St. Norbert Recaptures NACC Outdoor Crown

WAUWATOSA - St. Norbert College won its second Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference outdoor track and field championship in three years following competition at the NACC Championship at Wisconsin Lutheran College's Raabe Stadium.
 
The Green Knights, who won their first NACC outdoor title in their first year in the conference in 2022, rolled up 224.5 points to pull away to the championship. Milwaukee School of Engineering was in second place with 190 points. Aurora University was a distant third with 90 points.
 
St. Norbert powered to the title behind seven conference champions on Day 2. Collin Sylvain won the 400-meter dash in 49.75 seconds. The Green Knights swept the two hurdles races, with Ezra Schermacher taking the 110 meters in 15.14 seconds and Mitch Van Vooren the 400 in 55.82 seconds. Ryan Flood claimed the high jump with a height of 6 feet 1 1/2 inches, while Jacob Klitzke - who was named NACC Freshman of the Meet - launched a hammer throw of 161-3. Jonathan Timm fashioned a solid two-day effort in the decathlon, claiming first place with 4,767 points.
 
Luke Nash, Noah James, Blake Retzlaff and Kavin Fredrick rounded out the conference champions with a title in the 4x100-meter relay in 42.49 seconds.
 
The Green Knights had four runner-up finishes: Gabriel Thiel was in the 400-meter dash (49.82 seconds), James McKnight in the 100-meter hurdles (15.14), Austin Welsch in the long jump (21-11 3/4) and the 4x400-meter relay of Sylvain, Nick Johnson, Randy Johnson and Thiel in 3:20.59.
 
St. Norbert had five bronze medalists: Luke Nash in the 100-meter dash (10.80 seconds), Van Vooren in the 100-meter hurdles (15.29 seconds), Marcus Mittlestadt in the long jump (21-8 1/4), McKnight in the high jump (5-11 3/4) and Klitzke in the shot put (47-5).
 
Head coach Don Augustine and his staff were named NACC Coaching Staff of the Year.
