Ezra Schermacher acquired his first All-America honor with a sixth-place showing in the heptathlon at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championship at Virginia Beach Sports Center.
Schermacher had a strong second day to surge to a total of 5,041 points to earn first-team All-America status. UW-Eau Claire's Mitch Stegeman was the national champion with 5,434 points.
Schermacher entered the final three events of Day 2 sitting in 11th place but climbed up the standings quickly. He registered 855 points in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.52 seconds. He then cleared 15 feet 7 inches in the pole vault to total 834 points, which moved him all the way up to third place with one event left.
In the 1,000-meter run, Schermacher scored 592 points with a time of 3:07.52, which gave him an aggregate total to finish in sixth place.
