Green Knights Compete at Gustavus Adolphus Open

Sam SchneiderST. PETER, Minn. - St. Norbert College had one singles player advance to the semifinals and one doubles team play their way to the third round in their flights at the Gustavus Adolphus College Open. 

Sam Schneider (pictured) advanced to the semifinals of flight H, while Ryan Garland and Seth Kogutkiewicz collected wins in their respective flights. 

Schneider picked up a win against St. Mary's University's Antonio Jimenez to open his flight, followed by a 6-4, 6-2 win over Simpson College's Brendan Fitzhugh. Schneider fell in the semifinals by a 6-1, 6-3 score to Bethany Lutheran College's Daniel Poulakidas. 

Garland collected a win in ITA play against UW-Stevens Point's Anthony Janes 6-7, 6-3, 10-8, before falling to Carthage College's Linus Bangert in the second round. Kogutkiewicz secured a 7-6, 6-1 win in round one of flight E over Gustavus Adolphus's Marty Anderson, before dropping a 6-2, 6-0 match to the College of St. Scholastica's Timon Herrmann. 

In doubles action, Garland and Nolan Pearson defeated Carroll University's Carson Leighton and Lincoln Gates 8-7 to open play in B doubles. The pair topped St. Mary's Gavin Pratt and Charles Simon 8-2, before falling to Wartburg College's John Gustafson and Milan Lecic 8-7. 

Kogutkiewicz and Schneider opened play in B doubles with a win over Lawrence University's Nolan Glenn and Tristin Yun 8-4. In the second round the pair fell to UW-Steven's Point's Benjamin Temple and Jacob Stinski.
