Mitch Van Vooren turned in a memorable performance in the final of the 400-meter hurdles at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium.
Van Vooren fashioned a fourth-place finish after entering the championship race as the eighth and final qualifier. Running from a tough position in Lane 1, Van Vooren used an impressive finishing kick down the stretch to surge past a pair of contestants and fashion a school-record time of 52.02 seconds.
Van Vooren's fourth-place showing is the highest individual finish for St. Norbert at the men's outdoor championship since 2012. It is Van Vooren's first All-America honor, earning first-team accolades.
The University of Dubuque's JoJo Frost was the national champion with a time of 51.04 seconds. Bethel University's Joel Frost was second in 51.55 seconds, while UMass-Dartmouth's Cameron Rodgers was third in 51.85 seconds.
