St. Norbert Rallies Past Rockford

DE PERE - St. Norbert College picked up a victory via the reverse-sweep route by posting a 3-2 win over Rockford University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference match at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.

The Green Knights (5-9, 2-1 NACC) topped the Regents 23-25, 28-30, 25-23, 25-13, 15-12.

St. Norbert trailed by as many as six points in Set 1 before getting back to even at 21-21. The set was tied 23-23 before Rockford scored the last two points. St. Norbert led by as many as five points in Set 2 before the Regents rallied after the Green Knights had three set points, the last at 25-24. The set's last tie came at 28-28.

The Green Knights had a lead of 17-9 in the third set before holding off another Rockford rally. The Regents tied the set at 20-20 but could never grab the lead. St. Norbert held a 24-22 lead, with Rockford getting the next point but Kaden Kornaus' kill clinched the set win. St. Norbert held an 18-13 lead in Set 4 with John Stube serving the next seven points, starting the run with a service ace.

St. Norbert never trailed or was tied in the decisive Set 5. The Green Knights led 9-5 before the Regents went on a 4-1 run to get to within 10-9, but St. Norbert scored the next two points on kills from Kade Nelson and Kornaus. The Green Knights had a 14-10 lead before Rockford scored the next two points, but Eddie Pacula's attack on two was good for a kill and seal the victory.

The Green Knights hit .190, with 61 kills against 24 errors in 195 attempts. Jake Bettag had 16 kills, while Kornaus added 15 and Owen Knezevich 11. Pacula totaled 35 assists, with Michael Whitney adding 13. Nelson, Kornaus and Boston Peck each had two service aces.

Kornaus led the defense with 20 digs, while Ryan Conway had 16, Pacula 14 and Knezevich 12. Bettag and Knezevich had three blocks apiece.

Rockford hit .155, with 62 kills against 33 errors in 187 attempts. Isaiah Dixon had a team-high 17 kills.
