
EAU CLAIRE - St. Norbert College got off to a good start in the UW-Eau Claire Sandy Schumacher Memorial Tournament with a 3-2 win over the host Blugolds at McPhee Physical Education Center.
The Green Knights, who won their fifth-straight match, felled No. 12-ranked Eau Claire 25-22, 17-25, 28-26, 20-25, 15-11.
St. Norbert rallied to win the pivotal third set after trailing 22-10. The set ended up tied 22-22, 23-23, 24-24 and 25-25 before Eau Claire took a 26-25 lead. The Green Knights got back to within 26-26 on an Eau Claire service error and then scored the next two points on a Blugolds' attack error and a
Brooke Clement kill to seal the set.
In the fifth set, St. Norbert led 10-8 and then 12-9 before a kill from Clement put St. Norbert ahead 13-9. An Eau Claire attack error put St. Norbert at match point, but the Blugolds would score the next two points to get to within 14-11.
Linnea Svennes then put down a kill to seal the win.
St. Norbert hit .150 for the match, getting 59 kills against 28 errors in 206 attempts.
Grace Baumann had a team-high 17 kills to lead St. Norbert.
Molly Rader added 13 kills against three errors in just 26 attempts. Clement added 12 kills. Nardoni finished with 27 assists, while
Ellie Hartson added 15 assists.
Liz Maastricht had 38 digs, while
Emily Terry added 14 digs and Clement 10. Svennes had five blocks while Hartson and Clement added three apiece.
Eau Claire hit .172 for the match, getting 66 kills on 31 errors in 204 swings. Jordan Witzel had a match-high 18 kills to lead Eau Claire.
