DE PERE - St. Norbert College senior defensive back
Kendall Karcz has been named to the first team of the American Football Coaches Association Division III All-America Team.
Karcz, a Pulaski native and graduate of Pulaski High School, enjoyed a banner season by leading the Green Knights with seven interceptions with 170 return yards. He also finished with 51 tackles, 2 1/2 tackles-for-loss, one quarterback sack and two passes defended.
Karcz registered four interceptions in a 68-0 win over Wisconsin Lutheran on Oct. 9 at Schneider Stadium, with three in the first quarter and returned two for touchdowns, matching a St. Norbert record for interceptions returned for touchdowns in one game.
Karcz's four interceptions were the most for a St. Norbert player since Bill Van Lanen's school-record five against Loras College in 1957. The mark also ties a NACC record (only the second four-interception game ever in the NACC) and Karcz's two "pick sixes" are an outright NACC single-game record.
Karcz also finished the season by scoring three touchdowns, also scoring on a blocked punt return for a touchdown against Rockford on Oct. 30.
Other Green Knights honored by the AFCA were linebacker Jerimiah Janssen (2000 and 2001), offensive tackle Kevin O'Malley (2002), defensive back Joe Masciopinto (2003), kicker Bob Forstrom (2006), defensive back Frank Laterza (2015), kicker Spenser Thompson-Meyers (2017 and 2018) and offensive lineman Kyle Rademaker (2018). All were first-team selections except for Rademaker, a second-team honoree.
