COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. - St. Norbert College surrendered an early goal and could never find the equalizer in a 2-0 season opening loss to St. John's University in a non-conference match at Haws Field.
The Green Knights found themselves in an early hole when the Johnnies' Billy Cornett potted a goal just 1:14 into the match. That goal would hold up until the game's final moments, when St. John's salted the match away with a Laird Holden goal at 87:48.
St. Norbert had a good scoring chance in the 41st minute when a
Sam Thompson shot was turned away by a defender in the 41st minute.
The Johnnies outshot St. Norbert 14-7, including 8-2 in the second half.
Charlie Anguil (pictured) had two shots - both on goal - to lead the St. Norbert offense. Thompson and
Evan Baird had the other shots on goal for St. Norbert.
Jackson Kiszka made six stops between the posts for the Green Knights.
The Green Knights complete the second leg of their season-opening trip to the Land of 10,000 Lakes when it faces Hamline University at 4 p.m. Wednesday in St. Paul, Minn.
