Green Knights Walk Off Rams in Sweep

DAVENPORT, Fla. - St. Norbert College opened its annual trip to Florida with a sweep of North Central University, defeating the Rams 6-5 and 6-1 in a non-conference doubleheader at Northeast Park.

The Green Knights (6-2) won the first game off a Will DeBruin walk-off single with the bases loaded after trailing by four runs in the first inning. Matt Schuch got the Green Knights on the board in the bottom of the inning, scoring on an error by the Rams. DeBruin had his first RBI in the inning as well, bringing home Ethan Volz to make it 4-2. Tyler Dean scored on a sacrifice fly before DeBruin tied the game on a second North Central error.

A RBI from Declan Kane (pictured) gave St. Norbert its fifth run of the first inning as the Green Knights led 5-4 after one frame. North Central tied the game 5-5 in the third off a single, a score which held until DeBruin hit the walk-off single in the seventh inning to score Schuch.

Schuch, Kane and DeBruin all had two hits. Dean recorded one double for St. Norbert's lone extra-base hit.

Zac Wotruba earned his second win of the season, pitching the seventh inning and striking out one.

In the nightcap, St. Norbert took a 1-0 lead in the first inning off a Dean single, but the Rams tied the game in the third on a wild pitch. A double from Dean in the fourth scored Volz to make it 2-1, an inning where the Green Knights scored five runs. A bunt from Zach Bostrand scored DeBruin, while Levi Crosswell was hit by pitch with the bases loaded to make it 5-1. Bostrand added the fifth run of the inning on a sacrifice fly.

Dean led the Green Knights with his two hits and two RBIs. Six batters recorded one hit for the Green Knights.

Dylan Heier won his first game of the season, pitching five innings with six strikeouts with one walk and three hits.
