DE PERE - St. Norbert College rode a big second half from standout senior forward
Taylor Thiry (pictured) en route to a 53-42 win over Concordia University Wisconsin in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
Thiry posted 20 of her game-high 22 points in the final two quarters as the Green Knights (13-6, 13-1 NACC) kept their share of first place in the conference standings.
St. Norbert never trailed and led from the game's first possession thanks to a
Rose Hahn jumper. The Green Knights quickly built a 9-3 lead after a pair of Thiry free throws at the 6:40 mark of the first quarter.
Reese Sellers splashed a 3-pointer for a 12-5 lead at the 4:21 mark and
Olivia Conway buried a trifecta as the first quarter ended for a 15-7 lead.
Both teams labored through a second quarter that saw each team score six points apiece, with the Green Knights carrying a 21-13 edge into the rest stop.
Thiry then got the St. Norbert offense into gear scoring 12 points in the third quarter. A pair of Thiry baskets midway through the period gave the Green Knights a 31-16 lead at the 5:03 mark and a pair of free throws by Thiry ballooned the lead to 33-16 with 4:16 left. St. Norbert led 39-24 at the end of the third quarter.
Concordia would cut its deficit to 10 points three times in the fourth quarter but did not get to within single digits as the Green Knights closed out the win.
St. Norbert shot 33.9 percent (19-for-56) from the floor. Thiry's 22 points moved her to 1,254 career points, six points shy of matching Julie Schill for fifth place on St. Norbert's career scoring list. Conway added 11 points.
Concordia shot 29.2 percent (11-for-39) from the floor. Isabela Gunderson led the Falcons with 15 points.
