DE PERE - St. Norbert College finished off a sweep of its Northern Collegiate Hockey Association series with Lake Forest College with a 4-0 win at Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights (15-6-2, 11-3-2 NCHA) got a 26-save outing from goaltender
Vaughn Makar, his second career shutout. Makar turned away a handful of breakaway opportunities for the Foresters in the second period to keep St. Norbert in control.
St. Norbert scored the first period's lone goal when
T.J. Koufis registered a redirect for a power-play marker at the 13:41 mark. The Green Knights doubled their lead early in the second period when
Calvin Hanson scored just 42 seconds into the stanza.
The Green Knights continued to hold a two-goal lead until
Ethan Byrne's (pictured, center) shot snuck between the post and the pad for a power-play goal and some insurance at 11:54 of the third period. St. Norbert's final goal came in a rare double-empty net situation late in the game. Lake Forest pulled goaltender Luke Szyszka for an extra attacker and then were called for a delayed penalty. Makar skated off the ice to leave both cages open and
Jack Christen capitalized for a very rare extra-attacker empty-net 6-on-6 goal with 1:44 to play.
Christen and Byrne each added assists to their goals for two-point games, while
Dayton Deics had two assists for two points.
St. Norbert outshot Lake Forest 40-26. Szyszka made 36 stops for the Foresters.
St. Norbert was 2-for-6 on the power play, while Lake Forest was 0-for-3.
