DE PERE – St. Norbert College captured a 2-0 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering to open up the Slaats Cup in a Northern Collegiate Hockey League quarterfinal match at Resch Olympic Pavilion.
The Green Knights (16-8-2) broke through in the second period with a power-play goal from Hannah Grabianowski at 5:22, assisted by Grace Wittkopf and Tristan Wicklund (pictured). St. Norbert doubled its lead later in the period when Emily Bill found the back of the net at 14:58 with assists from Anna Rausch and Wicklund.
Clinging to the two-goal cushion, the Green Knights held off the Raiders over the final 20 minutes to secure the Game 1 victory.
Tanith Plachetka recorded the shutout for St. Norbert with 13 saves, while MSOE's Jenna Kent made 29 saves.
The Green Knights went 1-for-2 on the power play, and the Raiders went 0-for-2.
The two teams will meet again tomorrow for Game 2 of the Slaats Cup Quarterfinal at Resch Olympic Pavilion.
