FOND DU LAC – St. Norbert College turned in a balanced performance to claim its sixth conference win of the season, topping Marian University 71-45 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference matchup at Sadoff Gymnasium.
The Green Knights (6-5, 4-0 NACC) got off to a solid start, answering an early Marian 3-pointer with three straight scores. Both teams traded baskets throughout the first quarter, with Marian cutting the lead to two late, but
Charley Mullen's 3-pointer right before the buzzer gave St. Norbert a 21-16 advantage after one. Two quick layups from
Taylor Thiry and
Olivia Conway (pictured) pushed the Green Knights' lead to nine to open the second period. St. Norbert maintained control the rest of the half, heading into the break with a 36-26 lead.
Two layups from
Marnie Kahl and Conway's fourth 3-pointer of the night extended the lead to 16 midway through the third quarter. The Sabres connected on a pair of threes in an attempt to close the gap, but three straight baskets from
Avery Bierowski helped the Green Knights close out the quarter with a 17-point lead. St. Norbert pulled away early in the fourth quarter with baskets from several scorers, while the Green Knights held Marian to just nine points to secure the 71-45 win.
The Green Knights shot 43.2 percent from the floor (32-for-74). Conway scored a season-high 19 points, shooting 50 percent beyond the arc. Thiry finished with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Bierowski had 10 points.
The Sabres shot 25 percent from the floor (13-for-52), led by Ava Kreger with 12 points.
