DE PERE - St. Norbert College's women's hockey team said better late than never as the Green Knights delivered a 2-1 overtime win against Milwaukee School of Engineering in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Resch Olympic Pavilion.
The Green Knights appeared to be in dire straits after MSOE, following a scoreless first two periods, broke through on a breakaway goal by MaryFrancis Williams with just 6:13 remaining in regulation.
The Raiders held their one-goal lead before St. Norbert received a glimmer of hope when the visitors were found guilty of a major checking from behind penalty with just 30 seconds to go. With an extra attacker on the ice, St. Norbert capitalized at the last possible moment when
Annalee Holzer scored a 6-on-4 goal with just 1.5 seconds remaining to tie the game and force overtime.
St. Norbert wasted little time getting the win in the extra session, with
Abby Pieper (pictured) scoring a 4-on-3 power-play goal just 27 seconds in.
Sydney Zurawik had the Green Knights' lone multi-point game with two assists.
St. Norbert outshot MSOE 43-13.
Keira Markell made 12 saves for the Green Knights, while Jenna Kent made 41 stops for the Raiders.
St. Norbert was 2-for-5 on the power play, while MSOE was 0-for-1.
