DE PERE - St. Norbert College built an early lead but couldn't hold on as it fell 6-4 to UW-Stout in a non-conference game at Cornerstone Community Center.
The Green Knights led 3-0 early in the second period and held a 4-3 advantage after 40 minutes, but the Blue Devils scored three third-period markers to gain the win.
St. Norbert got the early jump when
Ethan Byrne scored at 6:21 and
Gustav Portillo (pictured) added another at 12:41 for a 2-0 lead after one period. The Green Knights built a 3-0 lead when
Curtis Hammond scored at 1:07 of the second period. Stout answered with goals at 2:14 and 8:17 to cut the deficit to 3-2, but
Jackson Rilei scored his first collegiate goal to make it 4-2 at 9:35 of the second. Stout then went on a major power play and scored once, finishing at 11:29.
Stout took control when it scored 12 seconds into the third period. The Blue Devils got an unassisted goal at 11:50 and an empty-net goal in the game's final 30 seconds.
Portillo finished with three points, scoring one goal and two assists. Byrne had one goal and one assist for two points, while
Jack Christen had two assists.
St. Norbert outshot Stout 33-26.
Hunter Garvey made 20 saves for the Green Knights, while Sebastian Monaco made 29 stops for the Blue Devils.
St. Norbert was 0-for-3 on the power play, while Stout was 1-for-2.
