RIVER FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College posted a season-best opponent low point total with a 57-38 win over Dominican University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Igini Sports Forum.
The Green Knights (9-5, 9-0 NACC) turned in their best defensive effort of the season holding the Stars to 26.1 percent (12-for-46) shooting from the floor, including 1-for-14 (7.1 percent) in the first quarter as the visitor jumped out to a 13-3 lead after 10 minutes.
St. Norbert opened the game on an 11-0 run, keyed by a conventional three-point play from
Marnie Kahl and a 3-pointer from
Reese Sellers. The Green Knights held their lead in the low double digits for most of the second quarter before settling on a 27-15 halftime lead.
Dominican trailed 29-18 early in the third quarter before
Oakley Witteck converted a trio of turnovers into baskets. Kahl splashed a 3-pointer at the 5:48 mark for a 38-19 lead and later finished a layup late in the period for a 47-25 edge with 10 minutes to play.
Olivia Conway and
Taylor Thiry (pictured) opened the fourth quarter with a pair of 3-pointers, the latter leading to the Green Knights' largest lead of the game at 53-25 with 8:24 to go.
St. Norbert shot 41.5 percent (22-for-53) from the floor. Kahl had 14 points, while Witteck added 13 points. Thiry scored 11 points to give her 1,179 for her career, moving her from 11th place to ninth on St. Norbert's career scoring list.
Dominican was led by Lia Saunders and Xi Le O'Neill, who each had eight points.
