DE PERE – St. Norbert College fell in a pair of games with Rockford University, 13-21being bested by scores of 8-1 and 7-5 in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader at Van Alstine Field.
The Green Knights (13-21, 7-13 NACC) held a lead for five innings in the second game before the Regents scored seven-straight runs to take the sweep.
Trailing 5-0 in the seventh, Matt Perry (pictured) hit a home run in the seventh inning to score St. Norbert's first run of the day. The Regents added two more runs in the ninth to take a 8-1 win.
Perry had the lone multi-hit game, going 2-of-3 and with one RBI. Dawson Schmidt and Jake Lucas each had one hit. Trevor Reinhardt took the loss, pitching eight innings and allowing eight and five runs with two strikeouts and two walks.
The Green Knights got to a better start in the second game of the afternoon, scoring four runs in four innings. Allowing a single by Dawson Schmidt, Reinhardt scored on the same play thanks to a throwing error by the Regents to take a 1-0 lead. A Perry sacrifice fly later in the inning scored Schmidt, while a Jake Lucas double in the third scored one more. A Connor LaBar RBI single scored Matt Schuch in the fourth inning as the Green Knights led 4-0.
Rockford took the lead in the sixth with five runs, while two more in the eighth gave the Regents a 7-4 lead. The Green Knights showed some life when Reinhardt hit his eighth home run of the season in the ninth, but St. Norbert could find no more answers at the plate.
Schmidt had three hits, while Lucas and LeBar had two. Jace Midbon took the loss, pitching six innings and allowing four hits and five runs with five strikeouts and three walks.
