St. Norbert Sweeps Falcons on Walk Offs; Schroeder Makes Program History

DE PERE – It was nothing but late drama for St. Norbert College in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader against Concordia University Wisconsin, winning on walk offs in both games by scores of 4-3 and 1-0 at Van Alstine Field.

The Green Knights (15-21, 9-13 NACC) won off a walk off single from Dawson Schmidt in the opening game, while an A.J. Kisting walk in the tenth inning broke a scoreless game as the Green Knights earned their first home sweep of the season.

In the second game, Jason Schroeder (pictured) made history when he became the first player in program history to pitch a complete-game shutout win longer than nine innings, pitching all ten innings and allowing just seven hits.

The Green Knights got on the board in the second inning to open the scoring in game one, with a Kisting single scoring Patrick Daniels. The Falcons tied the game in the third, with the 1-1 tie holding for a majority of the game. In the eighth, a triple from Schmidt scored Trevor Reinhardt while a Jake Lucas RBI single scored Schmidt on the next play.

The Falcons found a way to tie the game for a huge momentum swing in the ninth, scoring the tying run with the bases loaded on a walk. With two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Schmidt brought home his second run of the day on a RBI single to bring home Kisting for the 4-3 win.

Reinhardt and Schmidt both had three hits, going 3-for-5 while Kisting recorded two hits. Jace Midbon took the win, pitching one inning and allowing one hit and two runs with two strikeouts and four walks. Luke Steebs pitched the other eight innings, allowing seven hits and one run with one strikeout and three walks.

It was a rather quiet outing for both teams in the second game of the day, with St. Norbert recording four hits and the Falcons having seven. It took until the 10th inning for the Green Knights to record the winning run of the game, coming with the bases loaded thanks to walks from Matt Perry and Carson Krumrei and a Daniels hit by pitch. With one out and the bases loaded, Kisting was walked to score pinch runner Ethan Volz to complete a shutout and sweep for the Green Knights.

Devin Geary, Schmidt, Lucas and Kisting all had one hit. With the shutout, Schroder won his second game of the season.
