St. Norbert Dismantles Warriors for Third Straight Conference Sweep

WAUWATOSA – St. Norbert College swept their third straight Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader, firing past Wisconsin Lutheran College by scores of 16-5 and 11-5 at Neumann Family Field.

The Green Knights (13-19, 7-11 NACC), who have won six of their last seven, gained multiple runs early in each contest and never trailed en route to the sweep.

St. Norbert got off to an incredible start, scoring three runs in the first inning off five hits. Four of the five resulted in extra base hits, with a triple from Trevor Reinhardt scoring Devin Geary, while doubles from Dawson Schmidt (pictured) and Matt Perry each scored one run to make it 3-0. Reinhardt then hit his fifth home run in his last four games in the second, bolstering the St. Norbert lead to 5-1. The Warriors fought back and came within one run of the Green Knights lead in the third to make it 6-5, but 10 unanswered runs from St. Norbert in the following three innings shut down any chance of a Wisconsin Lutheran rally.

Single RBIs from Schmidt and Kisting made it 8-5, while a second double from Geary scored one more. A double from Perry and single from Carson Krumrei each scored one run, while singles from Reinhardt and Jake Lucas each scored two and ended the game early at 16-5.

Schmidt had a perfect game at the plate, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Reinhardt finished with three hits and five RBIs, while Geary, Lucas and Perry all had two hits.

Jason Schroeder took his first win of the season, pitching six innings and allowing seven hits and five runs with two strikeouts and walks.

Schmidt picked up where he left off in the second game of the afternoon, recording a 2 RBI double in the first inning to score Geary and Reinhardt. After adding another in the second, the Green Knights opened the gap further with a 3 RBI home run from Perry in the sixth to make it 8-3. Yet another RBI for Schmidt scored A.J. Kisting on a single, while Lucas hit a double later in the inning to score Scmidt. Geary put the game well out of reach in the eighth, hitting a solo shot to make it 11-5.

Schmidt finished with three hits and three RBIs, while Geary, Lucas and Will DeBruin each had two hits. Luke Steebs earned his third win of the season, pitching six innings and allowing seven hits and five runs with five strikeouts and three walks.
