Green Knights Outdone by Marian

FOND DU LAC – St. Norbert College battled but could not prevail against Marian University, going to extra innings in the first game of a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader and falling by scores of 3-2 and 5-0 at Smith Field.

The Green Knights (9-25, 8-10 NACC) tied the first game at 1-1 with an Allison Ardito solo home run in the third inning. The Sabres reclaimed a one-run lead in the bottom of the same inning, but it was Ardito who again got the Green Knights back on the board thanks to an RBI single from the shortstop in the fifth to score Savannah Jandrin.

Three scoreless innings followed, but it was the Sabres who edged out the Green Knights in the end thanks to an RBI double in the bottom of the ninth.

Ardito had the lone multi-hit game with two hits. NACC Pitcher of the Week Bailie Thielen put in a solid performance but ultimately took the loss, pitching the entire contest and allowing six hits and three runs with five strikeouts.

The Sabres dominated the second game of the afternoon, blanking the Green Knights 5-0. Ardito, Ava Engwall and Hallei Mleziva all had two hits.
