CHICAGO, Ill. - St. Norbert College earned its second sweep of the week, defeating Illinois Institute of Technology in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader by scores of 13-3 and 10-2 at Ed Glancy Field.
The Green Knights (10-18, 5-11 NACC) ride a 4-game winning streak, thanks in part to an outstanding day from Trevor Reinhardt (pictured), who earned the win as pitcher in the first game and hit three home runs and recorded seven RBIs in the second game. Those marks are tied for second most and fourth most in a single game in school history.
St. Norbert went up by three runs in the opening game of the afternoon, with a Carson Krumrei single scoring one run and a Reinhardt double scoring two more. In the fourth, a Dawson Schmidt single scored two more runs, while Reinhardt made it 6-0 after scoring on a passed ball. The Green Knights went up 9-0 in the seventh before the Scarlet Hawks could respond. Illinois Tech pulled three runs back in the 8th thanks to a 3 RBI home run, but four more Green Knight runs in the ninth put the game to bed.
Jake Lucas had three hits in the win, while Reinhardt, Krumrei, Devin Geary and A.J. Kisting all had two. Reinhardt not only had a four RBI performance, but also earned the win with seven innings pitched with just three hits and no runs surrendered with 10 strikeouts and two walks.
Reinhardt continued his incredible day with a home run in the first inning, the first of three in the game. After Illinois Tech tied it at 1-1, he hit his second and scored three runs to retake a 4-1 lead. A Scarlet Hawks home run made it 4-2 in the fifth, but hits from Schmidt and Lucas each scored one run. Reinhardt hit his third home run of the game in the eighth, scoring three more runs.
Schmidt finished the game with five hits, going 5-for-6 with two RBIs. Reinhardt had three hits, while Will DeBruin had two. Jace Midbon earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing seven hits and two runs with seven strikeouts and one walk.
