DAVENPORT, Fla. - St. Norbert College fell in its final game in Florida, going to extra innings with UW-Eau Claire in a 3-1 marathon loss at Northeast Regional Park.
The Green Knights (5-7) scored early and kept the Blugolds at bay for a majority of the contest, allowing their first run in the eighth inning. After reaching on an error to start the first inning, Devin Geary (pictured) scored on a wild pitch to give St. Norbert a 1-0 lead.
It was a quiet outing for both teams until the top of the eighth, when a single RBI from Eau Claire brought home the tying run. The game turned to extra innings following a scoreless ninth.
The Green Knights had a great chance to end the game in the 11th, as a Zach Bostrand leadoff single, a Connor Lebar hit by pitch and an intentional walk to Geary loaded the bases with one out. However, Eau Claire got out of the jam and ended the inning with the score still at 1-1.
The Blugolds broke the tie in the 13th inning, scoring a two RBI home run with two outs on the board and grabbed the late win from the Green Knights.
Trevor Reinhardt, Matt Perry and Bostrand all finished with two hits. Trey Parsons took the loss, pitching five innings and allowing two runs and two hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
St. Norbert will begin conference play on Saturday, heading to Dominican University for a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.
