MELBOURNE, Fla. - St. Norbert College fell in two games on the penultimate day of the Space Coast Games, dropping a 4-3 contest to Rutgers-Newark and 6-0 to Hamilton College.
After trailing 2-0 in the second inning to Rutgers-Newark, the Green Knights got the bases loaded and scored on an Andrianna Volz walk to bring home Karleigh Linssen. Linssen would tie the game in the third inning at 2-2 after her ground out allowed Ava Engwall (pictured) to score the tying run.
The Scarlet Raiders scored two runs in the third to take back a 4-2 lead, scoring off a St. Norbert error and an RBI single. A single from Linssen in the sixth scored Engwall for a second time but it wouldn't be enough for the Green Knights as they fell 4-3.
Engwall and Linssen both recorded two hits, with Linssen recording two RBIs. Amber Johanek took the loss, pitching five innings and allowing two hits and two runs with two strikeouts and two walks.
The Green Knights were then shutout by Hamilton in the afternoon game 6-0. St. Norbert kept Hamilton at bay through the first four innings, trailing just 1-0 before a four-run inning from the Continentals in the sixth doomed the Green Knights.
St. Norbert had a chance to tie or take the lead with runners in scoring position off two singles from Magdeline Hanmann and Engwall in the fourth but were left on base by the end of the inning.
Zoe Zasada and Morgan Jarvi both recorded two hits. Bailie Thielen took the loss, allowing 10 hits and six runs with three strikeouts and one walk.
