St. Norbert Splits With Lancers

AUBURNDALE, Fla. - St. Norbert College salvaged a split in its doubleheader with Worcester State University, falling 13-12 in the opener and rallying from a two-run deficit in the second game to win 7-3 at Lake Myrtle.

The Green Knights (5-6) held the lead against the Lancers in the opening game going into the final inning but was outdone by a ferocious seven-run inning from Worcester State to take a walk off win.

St. Norbert took a 7-0 lead in the first inning, with two RBI singles from Dawson Schmidt (pictured) and Jake Lucas scoring four runs with just one out on the board. Carson Krumrei came home on a balk to make it 5-0 to the Green Knights, while Devin Geary had his second hit of the inning on a double that scored two more runs.

The Lancers cut into the lead with two runs, but two more runs from the Green Knights in the fourth with the bases loaded regained a seven-run lead. A.J. Kisting was walked to score Schmidt while Krumrei scored his second run on yet another balk.

Worcester State scored two runs in the fifth, including a home run to make it 9-6. St. Norbert had two runs of its own in the seventh to make it 12-7 with three outs to go, but seven runs from the Lancers in the bottom of the downed the Green Knights, 13-12.

Geary, Schmidt and Krumrei all recorded two hits in the game, with Schmidt finishing the day with 4 RBIs.

After trailing 2-0 to start the second game of the afternoon, the Green Knights tied the game after Connor LaBar hit an RBI single to bring Krumrei home and the third baseman scoring on a passed ball.

Mishaps from the Lancers in the third allowed St. Norbert to retake the lead, with Matt Perry scoring on a wild pitch and Will DeBruin stealing home.

The Green Knights made it 7-2 in the fifth off two more runs, and despite the Lancers making it interesting in the seventh again, held on to take a 7-3 victory for the split.

Trevor Reinhardt recorded the lone multi-hit game, going 2-for-3 and scoring two runs.

Luke Steebs earned the win, pitching six innings and allowing seven hits and three runs with three strikeouts and one walk.
