LAKE FOREST, Ill. - St. Norbert College rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period to pull out a hard-fought 3-2 overtime win over Lake Forest College in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Association game at Alumni Memorial Fieldhouse.
The Green Knights (18-5, 13-3 NCHA), ranked No. 6 in the USCHO.com Division III Poll, got the victory when
Calvin Hanson (pictured) scored on a breakaway off a
Logan Dombrowsky feed 1:42 into overtime.
That goal was made possible by some good fortune late in regulation, with the Green Knights getting a power-play opportunity while having an extra attacker when the Foresters were cited for crosschecking with 31 seconds remaining. St. Norbert cashed in with 9.9 seconds remaining, when
Liam Fraser's one-time blast was true to knot the game 2-2.
St. Norbert outshot Lake Forest 15-4 in the first period but came up empty at the pay window in a scoreless stanza. Lake Forest took a 1-0 lead when Colin Bella scored at 6:45 of the second period. That marker would hold up until the Foresters doubled their lead with a Justin Ross goal at 6:48 of the third period.
The Green Knights got back into it when
Carter Hottmann scored a power-play goal at 9:13 of the third period.
Fraser had St. Norbert's lone multi-point game, posting a goal and an assist for two points. Fraser now has 74 career goals, tying him with Latvian Olympian Maris Ziedins for second place in St. Norbert history. His 155 career points now leaving him two behind Peter Bates for third place in St. Norbert career scoring.
St. Norbert outshot Lake Forest 39-28.
Hunter Garvey made 26 saves for the Green Knights, while Dylan Kruss turned away 36 shots for the Foresters.
St. Norbert was 2-for-6 on the power play, while Lake Forest was 0-for-6.
