St. Norbert Opens Season Against Rams

WEST LIBERTY, Iowa – St. Norbert College opened its season against Cornell College, being swept by scores of 6-3 and 13-3 at West Liberty High School.

The Green Knights (0-2) got off to a good start in the opener with a Dawson Schmidt single bringing home Trevor Reinhardt in the top of the first inning. Carson Krumrei then added a second run for St. Norbert in the top of the second after a Levi Crosswell hit led to double down the left field line as the Green Knights moved out to a 2-0 lead.

The Rams responded with one run of their own in the bottom of the second and took their first lead of the day off a 2 RBI home run in the bottom of the third to take a 3-2 lead.

A Will DeBruin (pictured) sacrifice fly in the fifth brought home Devin Geary to tie the game at 3-3. However, three unanswered runs for Cornell led to a 6-3 comeback victory for the Rams.

Reinhardt and Schmidt each had multi-hit games, with Reinhardt going 2-for-3 and Schmidt going 2-for-4. Jace Midbon took the loss, throwing for five innings and allowing nine hits and four runs with three walks and three strikeouts.
