DE PERE – St. Norbert College rushed to a dominant victory over Lawrence University, defeating the Vikings for a third time in a week in a Northern Collegiate Hockey Assocation Slaats Cup quarterfinal game at Resch Olympic Pavilion.
The Green Knights (21-4-1), ranked No. 10 in the USCHO.com Division III poll, scored three of their six goals in the first period and tied a program record for most wins in a season with 21 victories.
Tristan Wicklund picked up from where the Green Knights left off last week, scoring just 1:26 into the first period off assists from Hannah Graunke and Natalie Hogan. Hogan was involved in all three goals in the first period, as she went on to score two goals of her own at 15:14 and 18:21 for three points in the period.
Abby Pieper (pictured) scored a power play goal 33 seconds into the second period to put St. Norbert up 4-0. The Vikings responded with a goal at 3:00 to cut the deficit to make it 4-1 Green Knights. Kelsey Ross scored a fifth goal at 6:44 in the third period, while Maleiyah Streck scored just as the game ended at 19:59.9 to give the Green Knights an emphatic win to open the Slaats Cup.
Natalie Hogan finished with three points, while Courtnie Hogan finished with two assists for two points. Wicklund added one asisst to her goal for two points. Sydney Zurawik, Lexi Bonfe and Samantha Pacino all recorded one assist.
St. Norbert outshot Lawrence 37-15. Keira Markella made 14 saves for the Green Knights while Sarah Dobrzynski made 31 stops for the Vikings.
St. Norbert went 1-for-6 on the power play while Lawrence went 0-for-7.
