PLYMOUTH - St. Norbert College was firing on all cylinders offensively as the Green Knights extended their winning streak to seven with a 99-60 rout of Lakeland University in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Woltzen Gymnasium.
The victory was the 400th in coach
Gary Grzesk's (pictured, center) career, with 349 wins in 18 seasons at St. Norbert after 51 victories in three years at Lakeland. He is 349-116 at St. Norbert and is 400-147 including a 51-31 mark with the Muskies.
St. Norbert (17-6, 13-3 NACC) fell behind 9-4 in the early going but after that it was all Green Knights, who moved within one game of first-place Wisconsin Lutheran College in the NACC standings. The Green Knights went on 18-4 run to take control, fueled by 3-pointers from
Connor Pytleski and
Aidan Harrington, while a Pytleski layup led to a 22-13 lead at the 11:25 mark.
The Green Knights led 29-18 with 9:21 left before things escalated quickly, with a 17-0 run leading to the lead rupturing into a 46-18 advantage with 4:05 left.
Brandt Wilson had nine of the last 11 points in the skein. St. Norbert settled on a 53-29 halftime lead.
Lakeland would score the first points of the second half, but the Green Knights went on a 14-2 run from there to all but seal the win with a 67-33 lead with 14:33 to go.
St. Norbert shot 55.4 percent (41-for-74) from the floor and dished out 27 assists against six turnovers. Wilson finished with a double-double, posting 18 points and 10 rebounds along with four blocked shots in 20 minutes.
Garrett Grzesk added 15 points and eight rebounds, while Harrington had 12 points. Fifteen Green Knights cracked the scoring column.
Lakeland shot 34.4 percent (21-for-61) from the floor. Isaiah Hammond and Peyton Mrotek led the Muskies with 10 points apiece.
