RIVER FOREST, Ill. – St. Norbert College won its eighth straight game and clinched the No. 2 seed with a 69-66 win over Concordia University Chicago in a Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference game at Geiseman Gymnasium.
The Green Knights (18-6, 14-3 NACC) led for most of the first half by a small margin and were able to keep their lead through all the second half despite a Cougars comeback attempt.
Brandt Wilson opened a 4-point led early in the contest, scoring five points in the first two minutes. A basket from Aidan Harrington (pictured) gave St. Norbert its largest lead of the game at 14:12 in the first half at 13-5. The Cougars were able to fight back and take a slim 26-23 lead with 2:26 left in the opening half, but another bucket from Harrington with 38 seconds left gave St. Norbert a 28-26 halftime lead.
Wilson scored six more points to open the second half for the Green Knights. The Cougars came within two points several times in the second half but couldn't take the lead back. The Green Knights stayed ahead by two possessions for most of the second half.
Garrett Grzesk sunk Concordia Chicago by scoring six of the final eight points for the Green Knights in the last two minutes, as the Green Knights led 69-64 with nine seconds remaining. The Cougars did score a long two to have a shot with under three seconds remaining, but the Green Knights were able to successfully close out the victory.
St. Norbert shot 42.9 percent from the floor (24-for-56). Wilson led with 17 points while Grzesk had 16. Kyle Krueger had 10 points off the bench.
The Green Knights were outrebounded by Concordia Chicago 35-27.
The Cougars shot 44.1 percent from the floor (26-for-59). Joel Watts was the game's leading scorer with 19 points.
