Green Knights Power Past Yellowjackets

DE PERE – St. Norbert College earned a 6-3 non-conference win over UW-Superior in the first game of a weekend series at Resch Olympic Pavilion.

The Green Knights (7-2), ranked No. 7 in the USCHO.com Division III poll, took some time to find separation against Superior, breaking away from a 2-2 tie in the second period with three unanswered goals to give St. Norbert the desired breathing room.

Grace Wittkopf (pictured) scored at 7:28 in the first period to give St. Norbert a 1-0 lead, but a Yellowjacket goal 11 seconds later at 7:39 made it 1-1 in the blink of an eye. The Green Knights responded with a quickfire goal less than a minute later with Abby Pieper scoring at 8:29 to regain a 2-1 lead.

Superior tied the game at 8:09 in the second before Wittkopf's second goal at 10:54 once again forced a lead change. Briar Charchenko scored two minutes later at 12:40, while Wittkopf completed her hattrick at 18:41 for a 5-2 lead.

Superior scored one goal in the third at 8:29 to make it a tad closer, but Taylor Lesnar's goal at 18:52 put the game out of reach.

Tristan Wicklund had four assists for four points while Claire Healy had two for two points. Lesnar had one goal and one assist for two points.

St. Norbert outshot the Yellowjackets 33-25.  Keira Markell made 22 stops for St. Norbert, while Jayda Moyer had 27 for Superior.

St. Norbert was 0-for-3 on the power play while Superior went 0-for-6.
