Taylor Thiry surpassed the 1,000-point milestone for her career as the Green Knights battled UW-Eau Claire but ultimately fell 70-63 in a non-conference game at Mulva Family Fitness & Sports Center.
Thiry (pictured) became the 17th St. Norbert women's basketball player to reach 1,000 career points, moving to 1,011 with a game-high 21 points.
St. Norbert fell behind 7-0 early but a 10-2 run by the Green Knights was good for a 10-9 lead after a conventional three-point play by Thiry. The lead teetered back-and-forth until
Avery Bierowski's two free throws late in the first quarter but the Green Knights ahead 16-14.
Eau Claire took a 28-21 lead midway through the second quarter before a 10-0 St. Norbert run over the next 2:52 put the host up 31-28, with
Olivia Conway and
Reese Sellers contributing 3-pointers during the spurt. Conway's corner trey with 20 seconds left before halftime gave the Green Knights a 34-32 lead at the break.
St. Norbert led 38-36 after a Thiry putback at the 7:36 mark but Eau Claire would go on a 7-0 run and the Blugolds would never trail the rest of the way. Eau Claire led 50-44 after three quarters. The Green Knights would get their deficit down to three points at 53-50 with 7:36 left but would get no closer. St. Norbert got to within 60-56 after a Sellers 3 with 2:11 to go but Eau Claire scored five points on the next two possessions to salt away the win.
The Green Knights shot 38.9 percent (21-for-54) from the floor and outrebounded the Blugolds 38-37. In addition to Thiry's 21 points she added eight rebounds. Sellers had 12 points, while Conway had 10 points. Bierowski had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
Eau Claire shot 39.3 percent (24-for-61) from the floor. Kyla Overskei led the Blugolds wiht 19 points, while Britta DeMar added 16 points.
